General Car Service Townsville
A general service covers everything your vehicle needs to run reliably and safely between major repairs. At MB Automotive, that means checking every serviceable component — not just changing the oil and resetting the dash light. We use parts that meet or exceed OEM specifications across the board, from filters and fluids through to brake components and belts. No cheap aftermarket shortcuts.
Whether your vehicle is under manufacturer warranty or has 300,000 km on the clock, we service all makes and models out of our Garbutt workshop. If it's still under warranty and you need the logbook stamped, see our log book servicing page — we follow manufacturer schedules and maintain your warranty.
What a General Service Includes
Every service is scoped to the vehicle and its service history, but a standard general service at MB Automotive covers:
Engine oil and filter replacement
We use quality oils matched to your engine's requirements — correct viscosity grade, correct specification. In Townsville's heat, oil breaks down faster than in cooler climates. Running old oil through summer puts unnecessary wear on internal components.
Air filter and cabin filter
Dust is constant in NQ — vehicles regularly driving toward Charters Towers or on unsealed roads clog filters well before the standard replacement interval. We check condition at every service and replace when needed rather than waiting for a set kilometre count.
Coolant level and condition
We check concentration, pH and visual condition. Coolant degrades faster in Townsville's heat and loses its corrosion protection. If it needs a flush, we'll let you know. See our cooling system servicing page for detail.
Brake inspection
Pad thickness, rotor condition, fluid level and brake line integrity — measured and reported, not just glanced at. If anything needs attention, we'll tell you what and when. More detail on our brake repairs page.
Battery test
Load test and terminal inspection. Heat kills batteries faster in NQ — most fail inside 3 years up here. We'll tell you where yours sits so you can replace on schedule, not roadside. See battery replacement.
Steering, suspension and underbody
Ball joints, tie rods, bushes, shock absorbers, CV boots, exhaust condition — checked underneath properly, not just around the edges.
Lights, wipers, tyres and fluid levels
Topped up, checked and reported.
When to Service
Most manufacturers recommend every 6 months or 10,000–15,000 km. In Townsville’s conditions — heat, dust, stop-start driving — shorter intervals often make sense. We’ll advise based on how you actually use the vehicle.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions:
What's the difference between a general service and a log book service?
A log book service follows the manufacturer's exact schedule to maintain warranty. A general service covers the same core work but is scoped to what your vehicle actually needs based on age, condition and use — the right option for vehicles out of warranty or where you want a thorough service without being locked to a manufacturer checklist.
How do I know if my vehicle needs a service?
If it's been 6 months or 10,000 km since the last one, it's due. Other signs include dashboard warning lights, rough idle, poor fuel economy, or anything that feels or sounds different. Call (07) 4775 5777 and we'll book you in.
Do you use genuine parts?
We use parts that meet or exceed OEM specifications. In many cases that means genuine; in others it means quality aftermarket that matches or betters the original spec. We don't fit cheap alternatives — every part is backed by warranty.
